Invisible
A large fabric structure floats above a single chair, like a house-tent or child's fort, built to conceal and protect the occupant from discovery. Visitors to the exhibit must enter into the sheer, skin-like shelter and sit in the chair to listen privately on headphones to survivor stories
of abuse. Through translucent layers of domestic curtain fabric, vulnerable and half-exposed, the listener is cast into shadow, while the view out from within becomes murky and blurred. There but not there, as is the violence that so often occurs behind closed doors, keeping
victims 'invisible'—even in plain sight.
